Liar, LiarWatch Out For Rogue Software Posing As Anti-Spyware

Ever been tricked by one of those pop-up windows that says your system is infected and you should download this cure' right now? I have, and I should know better. But, I was in the middle of several tasks at once, I looked over and saw this warning window. Now this window looked similar to a window I have seen many times.

Without thinking I clicked the OK' button thinking this was a message from the security system. I knew when I clicked it I had made a mistake. My eye caught the web address the page was going to, and it wasn't what it said in the link. Now fortunately our "Pest Patrol" got it and I was ok. But the point is that one rogue program got by me.

The larger portion of issues causing connectivity or performance problems revolve around spyware or the products to remove them. And most of the spyware we receive is actually legal. The user agrees to install it when they agree to install another product like a search bar or email links.

The big spreaders here are Yahoo, Google, MSN, AOL but there are many others. These come in the guise of weather, news, RSS feeds, stock tickers you name it. They gather information on the sites you visit and send the user data back to the companies. Always be mindful of what you allow to download. Always watch what you install. Look for checked boxes, read the license. Make sure you only get what you originally wanted. These components compete for the online connection and the result is, of course, connection issues.

The spyware that got me above was fed to me by the web site I just went to. The browser window was re-directed to another window that looked like a warning screen. This is another favorite method to get spyware on your system. Pretend to be a product that removes it; wolf in sheepskin also known as Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Software.

Check out the website Spyware Warrior that lists many suspect websites and programs. They have a long list of names: Adware Agent , SafeWebSurfer, Spy-Block for example. Many of the names are designed to confuse them with legitimate software like Ad-Aware. The only real protection here is to use common sense and some healthy fear. If you didn't order it or are not sure of it, then don't use it!

The last performance killer is the spyware suites themselves. The newer ones are so large they kill performance on older machines or machines with modest resources. Also if one spyware scanner is good then two are better ... right? Wrong. If they are both running in the background and using system resources they can slow the system to a crawl.

The best thing to do is find one good program to scan automatically and use another one to scan manually. The one we use and recommend to run in the background is called Pest Patrol . Then we scan manually with the Ad-Aware scanner, which offers a great free program for personal use. Just make sure you update your anti-spyware programs and scan regularly.

Finally, always watch what you download and install and always beware and look closely when something pops up on your screen ... it may not be what it seems.

Software Backup For Everyone

Backing up your data with almost any electrical device is crucial to keep things intact. No computer or other electronic device is crash proof, problems can occur at any time. All computers can crash at any given time, which normally results in the loss of all data that was stored on the hard drive.

The potential for less is the ideal reason to create a backup of your software and data. How often or how much you need to backup things however, all depends on how you use your computer. If your data is very important or if you use your computer for work, you may need to create a backup of your software on a daily basis, possibly even hourly for some people.

You can use various devices and equipment to backup your data, such as DVD and CD burners, tapes, external hard drives, servers on the Internet, and so on and so forth. Although each one has pros and cons, you should always use more than one backup method if your data is extremely important to you, just to be on the safe side.

When it comes to backing up your data using software, there are five different methods you can use:

1. Full backup - A full backup will create a mirror of your hard drive, every file and folder that you currently have on your computer.

2. Differential backup - A differential backup creates the backup only for files that have been changed or upgraded.

3. Disk image - This will give you the choice of backing up your entire hard drive or just the files that you select.

4. Unattended backup - Using this method, you can set the software that will create the backup to do all of the work, even if you arent around.

5. Snapshot backup - A snapshot backup will mirror your hard drive, backing up the images of your files.

When you decide to get a software program to assist you with backing up your files, you should always get a program that best fits your needs. Price is also an important factor, although ease of use and overall reliability should always be the most important factors when it comes to your data.

Most programs are easy to use, so even if you have never backed up your data before, youll be able to do it without any problems. All youll need to do is load the software then follow the instructions that come up on the screen.

All in all, software backup is the best way to keep your data preserved and ready. Something can happen to your computer at any given time, which is why you should always be on the safe side and back up your data every chance you get.

Managing It Projects: Theory Or Practice?

Information Technology, and the development of business computer systems, is relatively new, by which I mean less than 50 years old. I started in this business in the early 1960s and was involved in the replacement of punched card tabulator systems with punched card computer systems (such as IBM 1400s).

As the technologies grew more sophisticated (eg disks, bigger memories and compilers) so the systems we developed became much more complex. As the IT industry grew, so did the numbers of programmers, analysts and operators working within it.

These were mostly very bright people, skilled and inventive but with often little appreciation of the needs of business. The wheel would be reinvented countless times in many different ways and there were as many different ways of structuring computer programmes as there were programmers doing it!

It was out of this that system development methodologies arose. These early methodologies were often developed by the major hardware manufacturers and management consultancies and were intended to be templates for development. Some were good, some were truly awful. Some were concise and some, like SSADM, were massively overblown and became the tail wagging the dog. Inevitably, the overblown ones became adopted by governments all over the world, adding massively to the cost and timescales of IT development in the 1980s without significantly improving overall quality.

The advent of databases (relational, hierarchical, etc) added to the complexity and made ever larger development projects the order of the day. This was partly the trigger for the emergence of project management methodologies because IT project management was frequently assigned to systems analysts and programmers with massive technological skills but little in the way of organisational skills.

The management consultancies quickly saw commercial opportunities and we saw a plethora of proprietary project management methodologies but it was the UK governments CCTA which broke the mould and launched PROMPT an almost workable methodology for IT project management. This was developed, firstly, into PRINCE and then into PRINCE2, which is good and has become widely adopted.

It is not unreasonable to regard PRINCE2 as the benchmark for project management methodologies and it does, indeed, provide a route map. I use it routinely in most of my projects, but it begs the question:

Does using a good methodology make me a good project manager?

It certainly helps but project management is more than just the mechanics of the process. It is about interpersonal skills, stakeholder awareness, presentation to management and understanding your rules for winning. In other words, it is a blend of theory and skills.

My eBook Project Skills looks at many of the issues involved and tries to meld theory with practical advice. You dont have to work in the industry for 30 years, but it sometimes helps if you listen to someone who has. Experience, awareness and common sense will always help, regardless of the methodology you choose for your project.

Preparing For And Surviving Politics For The Police Executive

Chief, this is Council Member Doe and I would like to talk to you about a citation one of your officers issued, or Chief, this is Council Member Smith and we need to talk about your traffic enforcement initiative in my neighborhood. My neighbors are screaming at me about this, or I am the City Manager and I dont care that you are the Chief of Police. You do not have the authority to conduct an investigation of another city employee without my permission. The Police Department answers to me first. Does any of this sound familiar? It probably does as political influence is exerted upon police administrators every day. It is incumbent upon you, proactive, professional police administrators to prepare for political influence if you want to survive. And, survival is achievable! First, however, you must understand the rules

Politics, stated simply, is the exercise of power. As such, it is value free, its goodness or lack thereof stemming from its application rather than from some inherent character. Although police executives can occasionally be heard avowing to keep politics out of the organization, this unqualified posture is unrealistic. Personal politics exist in every organization, and democratic control of the policing mechanism is fundamental to our society. However, policing and partisan party politics have had a long and not entirely healthy relationship in this country. (Swanson, Territo, and Taylor, 1988)

Whos political? We are all political in some form or fashion. Being political is not just for partisan politics. All of us have personal agendas, career goals, and family politics. Next time you are at a little league game watch the parents.

The application of political power has been in existence ever since humans have learned to jockey for position. History has a plethora of examples of political influence that have been both positive and negative for society. From the crucifixion of Christ, Hitlers reign of terror, the breakdown of the Iron Curtain to Clintons what is, is, politics have molded our everyday life to some extent. Indeed, some political events influence mankind forever, and we will never know what former President Clintons definition of what is is.

Historically, it wasnt until the mid nineteenth century that politics and policing came to together. New York City was the host of the Tammany Hall corruption scandal where elections were controlled by the police and the police were used to collect graft. Here was also the birth of the political machine with its graft, corruption, crime, poverty, and the exploitation of women and children by industry. (Swanson, Territo, and Taylor, 1988) It was common that when a new mayor was elected the entire police department would be dismissed and the new mayor would put his own police department in place.

Fortunately, policing has evolved from what many, arguably, would describe as thugs with badges to a profession striving to grow by building upon a foundation of ethics and professional standards. Much of this evolution can be attributed to August Vollmer who, at the turn of the 20th Century, was the first to strive toward professionalism for police.

During the relatively short lifespan of policing, politics has had much influence on how we succeed. There are many police executives/leaders who hold bachelor degrees and are graduates of the FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, Babson Command College, and the Leadership Command College at the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas. So many leaders today are proactive, dedicated professionals. Its ironic that the subject of politics, which can make or break a career, is rarely, if at all, talked about in a preparatory sense.

We must ask how we become police executives? Some police executives emerge up through the ranks. Sometimes this is good and sometimes not so good. If your organization is steep in the good old boy system, then probably not so good. Others, sometimes foolishly, seek the position. Regardless of just how the police executive attains his/her position, the goal of a leader in the policing profession should be to lead their organization into the 21st Century, and help their employees grow to their full potential. Have you ever asked yourself, What do my employees want?

The majority of police executives have stellar careers and make a difference in their organization, the people/employees they come in contact with, and the profession as a whole. There are others who just dont do their job very well. For whatever reason, some are promoted into police executive positions when they are not qualified or are a product of the good old boy system. Some forget who they are - - the police! They become corrupt, believe they are above the law and are untouchable. How wrong they are! Some fall victim to the stress and become alcoholics or drug abusers. Sadly, some become apathetic and just dont care anymore. Finally, some fall prey to an ever-changing political environment that is frequently intertwined in all of the above. They werent prepared.

Preparing for political influence requires a conscious effort on your part to recognize that the political environment, like the weather in most states of this great country, has a tendency to change when you least expect it. To be effective and to be strong - survive, you must have an understanding of perception because What people perceive, is what they believe. It doesnt matter what the truth is. You must also be able to anticipate issues that will have a political impact on your organization. (Leadership and Perception, IACP Magazine, March 1999)

The political environment of any governmental entity can be in various forms. Most municipal governments have some form of city council or aldermen with either a city manager or strong mayor. County Commissioners or a Board of Directors governs most counties. There are other political groups that can be very influential such as a proactive Citizen Police Academy Alumni and the ever-popular Citizen Review Board. Citizen action groups, Watchdog groups, Civil Service, labor organizations and others. You must be able to deal with all influences that emanate from these groups.

Who are these people we call politicians? According to Mark Twain, There is no distinctly American criminal class except Congress. Politicians are frequently stereotyped as being untruthful, dishonest, corrupt, snakes in the grass, similar to the stereotypical lawyer. The truth is that the majority of these people have a genuine concern for their communities. You must keep in mind that these people are usually novices and volunteers. All politicians have an agenda and possess unique personalities and opinions. Although some elected officials may be highly intelligent, others may be dense and obtuse. However, depending on their perception, there can be a conflict between their interpretation of right and wrong.

The police perform threat level assessments constantly and frequently subconsciously. Politics in the policing arena are not always threatening but usually perceived as such until proven otherwise. Like any other perceived threat, the police executive will assume a certain posture in defense of a threat. Some police executives feel safe laying low. The out of sight, out of mind philosophy doesnt work very well nor for very long. Sooner or later someone will focus on you. Some become a yes man or woman. You can try sucking up all you want but there will be a time when you have to say No. When this time comes, and it will, things will change. It is a foregone conclusion that sooner or later some form of political influence will impact you. Political influence can be directed to you through a variety of conduits:

Public scrutiny regarding a particular issue. (shooting, pursuit, excessive use of force)
Internal scrutiny regarding a particular issue. (promotion, discipline)
A new city manager/administrator, city council, board of commissioners, etc.
A new mayor or city manager may want to bring in a Chief of Police.
Good Old Boys
Malcontent employees.
Grapevine or rumor mill.
Complaints to politicians, City Managers/Administrators, County Commissioners, and the ever-eager media.
Negative Publicity:

Therefore, the best defense is a strong offense. It is incumbent upon you the proactive, professional, police administrator to have a working knowledge of what can impact you and have a plan. Learn to Play the Game. To try and be successful in dealing with politics you must not only be proactive, you must know what it takes to play the game. It doesnt always matter whether a particular issue is positive or negative. You need to make an assessment of the potential political impact and take the necessary steps to either capitalize on the positive or limit the negative. Learn to manage that which impacts you. Over the years we have heard much about learning to manage your boss. No one likes to be manipulated, so be very careful. Managing your boss requires finesse and an acute sense of timing. You should strive to ensure the success of your boss as this will usually ensure your success. Some Bosses dont deserve to succeed and may be incompetent. That is why an acute sense of timing is so important. You need to know when and how to take action or not take action. If you are particularly egotistical then managing your boss and letting him/her take credit for your efforts may be difficult. This same management theory holds true for the political arena: manage that which impacts you. A police captain has less, depending on job assignment, political interaction than a chief of police. Therefore, a captain can only manage that which comes to the captains attention. The chief of police can get be the target of much political influence and needs to conduct business appropriately. Build a relationship based on trust. From sergeant to chief, a manager in the policing profession must fulfill the initiatives handed to them, even politically motivated ones, with a commitment to provide an excellent work product. You can establish the trust relationship by having a track record of being credible. You build trust by showing genuine interest in meeting the needs of your governmental body. The professional police executive needs to be ever mindful of the slippery slope. Last but not least, DO NOT LIE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

In being proactive in the political arena, you must make use of the monkey. A monkey typically has great climbing ability and is very difficult to remove from its perch. For those that are in a leadership position, the monkey has a tendency to land square on your shoulders. Dont let it stay there unless its supposed to be there. The governmental body will make decisions that place the monkey right on your shoulders. It doesnt need to stay there, again, unless that is where it belongs. When a decision or action by the governmental body has an adverse impact on your organization explain it to the employees. Tell your employees what has happened, how it happened, the impact of the decision and an action plan on how to deal with it. This, in effect, puts the monkey back onto the governmental body. It is equally important to be fair. When the governmental body takes action that has a positive impact on the organization, provide the same information, an action plan and commend the governmental body on their decision.

Dont be afraid to Take a Stand. There comes a time when, as leaders, we have to take a stand regarding some issue. After all, we are the police! We are supposed to stand up for what is right as well as doing what is right! There is a distinct difference between being stubborn and taking a position on an issue. Stubborn people take a stand for all the wrong reasons. You will know when to take a stand and for the right reason. Issues will present themselves that will test your ethics and integrity. There is always a price to pay when taking a firm position on an issue. You should ask yourself, what will I accomplish? Is this the right time? How will I feel if I dont act? Although taking a stand means stepping out, you must remember that when youre right, youre right, and you should be willing to put it all on the line and take a stand for the right reason.

Sometimes, you will be your own worst enemy. People will think you are incompetent if you act incompetently. If you have politicians, employees, or others gunning for you, they will exploit every opportunity that should avail itself to make you appear incompetent. Therefore, DONT LOOK STUPID. If you are not as competent as you think you should be, then surround yourself with a staff that is. The very best way to keep others from shooting at you is to take away their ammunition. Most issues that come to your attention are not of the emergency nature. You should not have to resolve an issue, very often, in the autocratic mode of leadership. Take the time to prepare an intelligent response or make an educated decision. To do this, you have to do your homework, which requires researching, being open minded, and listening. You may think highly of yourself, but it is a safe bet that you do not know all there is about policing and leadership. When speaking at a meeting or before the governmental body, be prepared. Know the subject matter. Dont let yourself be embarrassed before your employers or peers over questions to which you should have known the answers. If you are not a good speaker, then assign someone else to make the presentation.

During the tenure of all police executives, a variety of issues, usually unanticipated, will present themselves where you will be required to take some form of action. Many of these issues, if not handled appropriately, can get the police executive into political turmoil that he/she may not survive. Political turmoil can arise from any of the following:

 Arresting a politician
 Arresting a politicians family member or friend
 Vocal opposition to a City Council initiative
 Campaigning
 Fighting the Sacred Cow
 Being at odds with the City Manager/Administrator
 Some interdepartmental initiative that City Council and/or the City Manager doesnt agree with.
 Internal investigation of other City employee
 Elections: City Manager may campaign behind the scenes. Not supposed to according to ICMA Code of Ethics.
 Poor Leadership

One major issue that can place you in a quandary is when information comes to your attention that might indicate official misconduct on the part of an elected official or employee. Anytime there is a hint of criminal misconduct by any public official, you should make notification to an enforcement/investigative agency immediately. By contacting your local District Attorneys Office, Attorney General, State Police or Department of Justice, this triggers protection under the Whistleblowers Protection Act. Once it is known that you may have this information, the targeted official may try and exert some form of political pressure to get you to either back down or discredit you. You may be told by your supervisor not to conduct an investigation or to discontinue an investigation. This may clearly put you in conflict with your mandate to enforce the law as authorized by your state and your natural instinct not to put your employment in jeopardy. Some city managers have the perception that they can dictate to the police what they can investigate and what they cannot. The authority comes from the legislature, not members of City Hall or the governmental body. To survive this you must go on the offensive. Do not compromise your ethics for some corrupt or unethical employee/politician. Your supervisor or city manager may try and influence you to turn the other cheek. Do not carry this monkey on your back, instead, put it on the person who is responsible and let the investigative agency decide if there is merit to the allegation.

Most states have a Whistleblower Protection Act, which is similar to the following Whistleblowing has been defined as the act of a man or woman who, believing the public interest overrides the interest of the organization he serves, publicly blows the whistle if the organization is involved in corrupt, illegal, fraudulent or harmful activity. (Texas Whistleblower Protection Act) If, after having made notification to an enforcement/investigative agency, you are subjected to an adverse employment action, such as termination, you have the right to sue for retaliation under the Whistleblower Protection Act. In Texas, if you receive an adverse employment action within 90 days after you have notified an enforcement/investigative agency the adverse employment action is deemed prima facia evidence that you have been retaliated against. The burden of proof then shifts to the governmental agency you work for to prove otherwise which is often very difficult to do. When considering filing a lawsuit, you must decide whether it is worth to fight this fight at this time. There are times when you have to swallow your pride and suck it up. You would be wise to seek good legal advice as you can win the battle and loose the war. When your job is on the line, you will find out who your friends are. You should align your allies and not be surprised if someone on your staff starts to posture himself as your replacement. You should be very careful what information you disseminate. It should be true and accurate unless it is your intent to disseminate false information to see where it leads. On occasion, disinformation can give the police executive an idea where the weak links in the communication chain are. Its interesting to see how fast information can get to the city manager and/or governmental body.

You must be mindful of the fact that the majority of the times, political pressure does not result in adverse employment actions. Political pressure is usually very subtle. This subtle pressure can be exerted in a variety of ways. An elected official might decide to call you directly and question you on certain issues. They might put pressure on the City Manager to try and get him/her to influence you. Some member(s) of the governmental body could micro-manage the budget and scrutinize all the expenditures for your organization. Some might try to involve themselves in personnel matters. Usually a couple of members of the governmental body can influence the vote of the rest. There are times when the City Manager may try and influence them to have a particular issue decided before it goes to the City Council meeting. Some pressure can lead the weak executive to compromise her/her ethics and integrity, which could ultimately result in corruption. This issue cannot be stressed enough. No one is worth this kind of compromise. The police executive should seek support and advise from those who have the strength to help/her make the right decision. Not all political pressure is threatening or destructive. Knowing that there is some pressure can motivate us to accomplish our goals. Frequently, the governmental body comes up with good ideas. After all, we are supposed to be a team.

It is not uncommon for the police executive, as well as other police employees, to befriend and associate with members of the governmental body. This is particularly true in small cities where everyone knows each other. Certain city charters and commission rules prohibit members of the governmental body from discussing business or getting involved in personnel issues. These rules are sometimes overlooked as these relationships often build a conduit for the exchange of information. Anytime an employee, especially you, goes around the city manager and straight to council members with information or attempts to lobby an issue, this can be very dangerous. The potential to get burned is very high.

In an email from Chief Redfern of the Easthampton Police Department he stated I had to chuckle when I read Chief Melvin Griggs description of a chiefs job, running amongst the raindrops and trying not to be hit. Being a police chief for 15 years now, I was the emcee at another chiefs retirement party after being chief for over 30 years! I asked him while we were at the podium, So Bill, whats it been like all these years being a small town police chief? He paused for a moment and said, Being a small town police chief is like being the only fire hydrant in the dog pound. You know youre going to get it, you just dont know what direction it is going to come from. If you are proactive, not afraid to take risks, then sooner or later someone will come gunning for you politically. For whatever reason, a new council member, city manager, mayor or influential citizen may take issue with you. Not only are there activities you can do procedurally but also equally important, you must be prepared personally. This is a part of business and you have to learn to separate what is personal from what is professional. This is a skill that is very important and should be honed on a regular basis.

You should not respond with anger when challenged. Anger is very destructive both emotionally and physically. When we are angry we have a tendency to make the wrong decisions. With anger comes an unquenchable thirst for revenge. Revenge is like a razor sharp two-edged sword. If not handled very carefully one is likely to get cut. You should always be cognizant of the fact that not all speech is constitutionally protected. When we get angry we sometimes say things that we shouldnt. The United State Supreme Court has held in Connick v. Myers that a public employees speech upon matters of purely personal interest is not afforded constitutional protection. Badmouthing the City Manager or the governmental body to the general public can put you jeopardy. Lastly, when pressure is affecting you adversely you should not be afraid to seek counseling from not only your policing family but also from professionals such as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

There is truth to the saying that If the Police Chief is doing his job right, he is probably the most powerful person in town. Power, like politics, is not inherently bad. It is in the application or inappropriate application that can bring about success as well as turmoil. Power is received by virtue of your position. As a police executive, a certain amount of power is bestowed upon you by law, charter, legislature, etc. Real power is that which is granted to you. When you have the support of the employees, and citizens, you have a lot of power at your disposal. We have seen many times where attempts to unseat a Chief of Police has resulted in defeat and often times the City Manager has to leave. Although this power exists, you must recognize its potential, it must not be abused.

It is the natural inclination of all police officers to document facts as they occur. After all, this is what a police officer does when he/she writes a report. It would behoove you to document conversations, or other information, when you feel that the information may be needed at a later date. The surreptitious tape recording of conversations should be conducted with the greatest of caution and infrequency. This should be done only when you know the contact will be adversarial. Do not record all the time. Once it is known that you have the propensity to record conversations people will be less forthcoming with information. Most importantly, when it is known about the recording the trust relationship between you, the employees, City Manager, and governmental body is severely jeopardized.

Summary

Most of the time, the political environment in an organization is not as gloomy as some police executives perceive. It is your responsibility to make an accurate assessment of the political climate and provide leadership based on ethics and integrity. Most politicians are good people trying to do what they think is right for their communities, constituents. The police executive must remain cognizant of the fact that most politicians are everyday people, novices, who have a lot to learn about how government works. You should be proactive is your approach to assisting the governmental body in learning and accomplishing their goals.

You must not be nave. The political climate can change abruptly and you must be prepared to respond. Issues arise that require a professional, educated response and you must be ready to step up and provide that response. You should be proactive and utilize those resources that can help protect you when adversarial issues arise. You must also realize that you can only do so much to protect yourself. Chief Cornelius Behan, Baltimore County Police Department said, There are obviously some things beyond the Chiefs control that can dictate his survival. A chief must be working in a climate that is good for him. The control that the chief has comes before he takes the job. Its possible to walk into communities where youre doomed to fail from the outset. Before going into a position that is hopeless, make an assessment, be prepared, proactive, professional, and with these tools you can survive.

Can Adware Be Badware ?

Adware can so badly infect your system that that you have to end up reformatting the infected computer by literally wiping everything out and doing a fresh install. Use antispyware software or adware removal tool to remove the threatening adware.

Adware is major commercial business with lots of money in it. Sometimes you become so badly infected with malware adware that you have to end up reformatting the infected computer by literally wiping everything out and doing a fresh install.

Advertising is nothing new, and used responsibly and in the appropriate context, is useful and beneficial to the user. But in Internet advertising Adware is something we all have to be very careful about because of its dangerous activities once installed in our system, especially if we didn't consent to it. Any unauthorized program carries the risk of making our computers unstable. And if infected with adware, the system performs really slowly and crashes constantly.

Sometimes the system does not even boot up. On top of all this, when you try to clean up your badly adware infected system, you encounter serious problems. If there are too many adware items to remove your antispyware software or adware removal tool, your computer may not be able to handle the load. Moreover, after you remove the adware, it may have taken away the computer's ability to connect to the Internet.

Privacy And Security Risk

Adware acts like spyware, while threatening your privacy and security. It reports details about your browsing habits, every time you connect to the Internet, tracking what you type, what you search for and which advertisements interest you. When you surf the Web, a malware installation may very well alter your Internet Explorer security settings in such a way that it might show you treacherous sites as Trusted sites. You have the Trusted sites section so that you can be sure that these websites won't destroy your data or system. The problem about adware is that it adds deceitful sites to the trusted zone without our approval and knowledge.

If you use Windows XP and have Service Pack 2, you are supposed to be safe, but adware can be clever enough to exclude itself from list of popups to be blocked. It can even unblock itself from the Windows Firewall! Some adware use Trojan horses to conceal them so that antispyware software can't find them.

The concern with adware is even more severe when teenage kids are involved. They go to various sites to download lyrics and end up with a computer that becomes so infected with adware that it becomes a real challenge for an adware removal tool to tackle. Not only that, the adware keeps generating popups that are most unsuitable for the viewing of kids.

It is therefore, highly recommended that every computer must be installed with antispyware to ensure safety.

CD Duplication - the Key to Protecting Your Data

CD duplication isn't quite as popular as it once was due to the recent popularity of iPods and other media players. Nonetheless, while fewer people may be saving their music to CDs so they can carry it around, there are still many people who like to make copies of their CDs for backup purposes, especially since Compact Discs can be very susceptible to data corruption due to scratching.

Often people consider CD replication and CD duplication to be the same thing. However, there are some major differences between the two methods. First of all, the CD replication process requires expensive professional quality equipment. Also, since CD replication is a process that is only useful for creating large numbers of copies, it is only legal if the entity doing the replication either has created the data stored on the disc themselves or has the consent of the actual copyright holder. CD duplication, in most cases, does not require the manufacturer's approval as it is done on purchased CDs in single quantities for home use only.

The phrase 'CD duplication' actually refers to a couple of different procedures. The best way to choose the correct one is to take some time to decide one's specific requirements first. One person's requirements might vary from the next person's for a number of reasons. For one thing, what type of files will be copied? Will they be music, images, or data? Or will it be a combination of file types? Once you've determined your personal criteria, you can make an educated decision regarding features, price, etc.

Most people will opt for an inexpensive CD duplication software program. There are tons of these available for download from the Internet, and most offer trial periods where you can familiarize yourself with the product and decide whether or not it's up to your standards before having to fork over any money. These days, most computers include a CD burner and the accompanying software at a minimum, so if you might be getting a new computer soon, you may wish to focus on the CD duplication programs that come with the machines you're considering.

If you want to make one or two copies each of a large number of Compact Discs, then it might behoove you to investigate the possibility of contracting with a CD duplication company. They can even design labels for the discs, and some say they'll provide marketing, but if you need marketing, you might be getting into the realm of replication. Remember that if you're making numerous copies of one disc and offering it for sale, you must either be the copyright owner of have their permission. Otherwise, you may well be charged with software or media piracy. Anyway, a number of these duplication businesses can be found on the Web.

The fact that it's so easy and inexpensive to get cd duplication done is pretty amazing if you stop to think about it. Twenty-five years ago, it cost forty thousand bucks for a CD writer and fifty dollars for one blank disc. Now the writers come for free with every computer and the discs go for pennies!

How To Save Money Shopping Online

Learn how to save BIG online by searching for multiple coupons, getting free shipping, comparing prices and researching the brands.

Many consumers think that online shopping is more expensive because they wouldnt have to pay shipping at the brick-n-mortar store. They dont know what youre about to find out.

Did you know that there are thousands of websites that exist just to provide you with coupons for online stores? Did you know you can find sites that compare prices, and brand features, or that entire forums and networks are dedicated to allowing users to voice their own opinion about a product or service? Did you know many stores use their online portal and email newsletters as a quick way to unload overstocked products at below-cost prices? Did you know some stores allow you to combine free shipping deals with dollar off deals, with percent off deals, with buy-one-get-one deals? Did you know there are companies that allow you to join their affiliate program and save hundreds of dollars by selling yourself their product? I know of one that lets me buy a hosting package for $95 including taxes, and then deposits $100 back into my affiliate account a few months later. They are actually paying ME to buy their product. It says nothing against doing this in the agreement I signed, and as far as Im concerned it is a dont ask; dont tell situation.

Most of these sites did not exist five years ago, at least not with such economic success while providing such unprecedented value. We have the emergence of Affiliate Marketing to thank for this, as you will see below.

The Digital Coupon

I was shopping for a relatives Christmas present last year and my mother saw me get onto a coupon site. It was http://www.thecouponmatrix.com , which has little coupon-like dashes around the logos, and she asked "Are you going to print that coupon out?" It dawned on me then that perhaps not 'everyone' knew what an affiliate program was, or that thousands of merchants pay bloggers and website owners in every conceivable industry to distribute online coupons via special codes that the buyer types into a field during the checkout process: "Save 25% on everything today only! Enter Code: 12345 at Checkout." Others just apply the code automatically when you click on the link: "Get free shipping. Click Here." If you are going to buy the Blue Widget brand of widgets, for example, go to Google and type: 'blue widget coupons' or 'blue widget coupon codes'. You'll be surprised at how many there are!

Double Dipping

Most ecommerce systems these days are smart enough to allow stores to make coupons not applicable with any other offers. But the employee behind this million dollar ecommerce system doesnt always have his coffee in the morning and you can often find online stores that allow multiple coupons to the point of practically getting something for free: Free shipping + 25% off + $10 off + Get one free = A heck of a deal! Do a Google search for "you can use multiple coupons" and see if you can find any of your favorite stores.

Compare Prices

There are plenty of websites out there that will check databases from thousands of online stores and return the result that has the cheapest price for the product you asked for. You might already know some of them, such as: amazon.com, pricegrabber.com, bizrate.com, and Nextag.com.

Compare Brands

Less common than the price comparison site, but equally as useful, is the brand comparison. Before you try to find where to buy, you need to know what to buy. That's where sites like http://www.comparethebrands.com come in. They take two brands (i.e. Treo VS Blackberry Smart-phones) and compare features, price, consumer opinion from other review websites, and come up with an unbiased suggestion as to which brand is the best buy, thus saving you money both short-term and in the long run with a higher quality product.

Join Newsletters and Feeds

Get a free Hotmail or Gmail account, and use it only to subscribe to your favorite stores newsletters. Before long you will have a library of emails from which to select coupon codes, limited time offers and deep, deep discounts on overstocked items. I often see the price being offered in the email to the newsletter group can be as much as half of that listed on the website for everyone else to see. Feeds are slowly taking over instead of newsletters, and have the added benefit of being more anonymous. You can sign up for Compare The Brands 10 Most Recent ever-flowing feed of product reviews just by copying and pasting the URL into bloglines or Google feed reader. You can even get a widget and put it on your desktop.

Sell Yourself and Double the Winnings

Affiliate programs gave birth to this type of service and utility in the ecommerce industry by allowing regular Joe's to place a link on their own website, or in an email, and get a percent of the sale every time someone went from their link to the merchants' site and purchased something. What those new to the affiliate marketing industry do not know is that most merchants have no clause in the affiliate agreement about using the discounts to buy for yourself. Just join all the programs you can, keep a page somewhere online that you can put all of the links on, and next time you want to buy something just go through your own link. Not only will you save by using the coupon code, but you get a percent of the sale. How much cash back does Visa give - 0.02%? Hop on over to Commission Junction, Shareasale or Linkshare to get up to 25% back every time!

Remember: Compare the brands, join the newsletters, compare prices and double dip those coupons while selling yourself on a Great Deal! Youll be the best customer you've ever had. I promise.

Personalised Gift Products - A Novel Niche Business Concept

Quite often the simpler ideas are the best; such is the case with the personalised product 'Day You Were Born' and related products such as 'Our Wedding Day' and 'Baby Certificates' (Details available at http://www.dayborn.com ). In essence this is a niche personalised gift item where the customer provides personalised details, such as a Name and Date of Birth and a clever and extensive database provides details of news, sports events, entertainment snippets, name meaning, birth flower/stone etc from every day from the year 1900 to the current month. This information is presented finely printed on attractive certificates, available framed or laminated. These make wonderful gifts that are often treated as heirlooms.

Datalite UK Limited first looked at Day You Were Born based products for the UK market some five years ago after examining a popular USA variant. This was obviously based on USA news and information, and in a format not really suitable for British customers. The solution appeared to develop our own in-house software and product, but prior to this a check was made for any existing products, and hence discovered the franchiser Glynne Davies of Glycar. Their software and business package was imminently suitable, and on the basis of no point in re-inventing the wheel, or getting involved in an intellectual property dispute, a reciprocal franchise arrangement was agreed. This has proved most successful.

Sales of Day You Were Born products continue to expand, partly fuelled via word of mouth and returning customers, and literally thousands have been sold. Outlets have included direct supply to well known catalogue companies, shops, holiday camps, mail order, telephone/fax orders, and of course online from website: http://www.dayborn.com.

Datalite's personalised certificate product range has ever evolved and includes (amongst many) such items as Our Engagement, Retirement, Years Service, even Divorce! Irish and Scottish variants have been developed to supplement the standard UK version, with many sales across the Atlantic of the Irish versions during the St Patrick's Day celebrations. Many further ideas are currently being researched, including the feasibility of adding 'Civil Partnership' certificates to the range, inspired by the evergreen success of the more traditional 'Our Wedding Day' certificates.

The 'Day You Were Born' product has undoubtedly proved a most successful personalised product. Individuals all have a birth colour, flower, stone, Chinese year sign, zodiac sign, name meaning (for most); together with news and entertainment events happening around their day of birth. It is concluded that its popularity has been down to the simple truism, that most people (no matter what they say) have a great and natural interest in themselves!

Having served 22 years in the Royal Navy he created the company in 2000, specialising in supplying picture frames and personalised gifts. Well travelled due in large part to aforementioned naval service, John has written numerous articles, and has won prizes for his work including winning first place in a national Royal Navy essay competition.Allegra Blog88115

The Antispyware Dilemma.

Staying clear of spurious antispyware can keep your pc protected. Hordes of products out there do not keep their promise of cleaning up your pc of spyware. Worse still, you might buy an antispyware product that does just the opposite - install new adware and spyware.

Spyware is something we cannot escape from if we use the Internet. But if we stay abreast of how some antispyware vendors can take advantage of us with useless products, fake product reviews and advertisements that mislead us on sites we trust, we can make an informed choice in eliminating these hoaxes.

How can you keep from being cheated?

Fake and useless antispyware software can crawl into your system. If you suspect that your system has spyware, you will invest in reliable adware removal and antispyware packages to prevent future problems for your computer. But you have to be very cautious about which antispyware you choose. There are hordes of products out there that do not keep their promise of cleaning up your pc of spyware. Worse still, you might buy an antispyware product that does just the opposite - install new adware and spyware.

Another hassle is that fake antispyware programs might be able to find and eliminate only certain spyware and tracking cookies that don't pose a serious threat. The actual problem may continue to reside on your pc. Most adware programs continue download adware, so you just have a constant scare about what might happen to your pc.

The thing about adware and spyware is that they are changing all the time, so while you might think you've eliminated one lot, a totally different set might have landed on your computer that you cannot detect easily. The people who produce adware, spyware and Trojans are shrewd, providing a challenge to the most effective antispyware in the market. You might be thinking that you are buying reliable antispyware tools, when you might actually be paying for bundled adware, viruses, browser hijacker and all the things you want to remove from your system.

What About Antispyware Reviews

Sites that claim to provide authentic antispyware product reviews abound on the Internet. These may be of questionable credibility and may not give you an unbiased review of the antispyware's abilities. There are shady companies that pretend to rank high on Google, leading you to think that the reviews are believable.

The worst of the lot is those fake companies that use those disgusting banner advertisements, which offer to scan your pc. They use graphics to show a progress bar just like the one you see when you actually scan your pc. They show results that are obviously not the real thing but a demonstration of how the software may work. Beware of these cheats. They link you to sites that are supposed to fix the spyware problem. These also land up in your email inbox as part of the email message.

Armed with the above information, you can research and select an antispyware package from a reliable source.

Microsoft Dynamics GP Dexterity Customization

Microsoft Great Plains software development, customizations, reporting. Microsoft Dexterity programming as reliable alternative to newer technologies and platforms, such as .Net, C# and VB MS Visual Studio development, eConnect, XML: Web Services.

Alba Spectrum Group is proud to announce Microsoft Great Plains Dexterity group development headcount increase. We are serving USA nation-wide from our Dexterity project management facilities in Houston, TX and Chicago, IL. Luis Leung (Alba Spectrum Texas) and Andrew Karasev (Alba Spectrum Illinois) are lead project managers for Microsoft Great Plains Dexterity customization, integration, reporting, form modification projects. Some Microsoft Dexterity technological features:

Sanscript. This is Dexterity programming language. It is actually compiled and stored in Dynamics.dic with development source code. Dex is cursor oriented DB accessing programming language, however you can also call MS SQL Server stored procedures (with SQL Select statement aggregation logic)

Alternate Forms. Technically you can modify any form you like in Dynamics.Dic original Microsoft Dynamics GP objects repository. But you might encounter future upgrade issues original forms are subject to redesign by Microsoft Dynamics subdivision without any notice

Dexterity Reports. As software developer you can create new Dexterity report, assuming that you will also provide new Dex form, where report will be getting parameters

Dexterity Alternatives. In 1990th the alternatives were VBA you could modify Greta Plains form with Modifier and include VBA scripting into your modification Dynamics.vba is the dictionary, storing your modification. In 2000th you have .Net instruments, such as eConnect with XML Web Services interface. Technically eConnect is very powerful, but comparing to Dexterity Dex has access to all Dynamics GP objects, while eConnect is secondary enabler it has access to objects, covered by eConnect development team. Future direction will probably give more options to Business Portal developer, using either eConnect or manipulating another future interface for Great Plains objects

Dexterity Advancements. These are typically related to Microsoft Great Plains Source Code Programming. Very good extension is posting server, allowing ecommerce developer automatically post GP batches in such modules as Sales Order Processing, GL, Inventory Control, POP, and others

Comparison to Other Microsoft Dynamics Products. Microsoft Dynamics ERP family include Axapta, Navision, Solomon and with some restrictions Microsoft CRM. Dexterity should be compared with similar technologies: Axapta Microsoft Dynamics AX MorphX / X++, Navision Microsoft Dynamics NAV C/SIDE

Heterogeneous. Or cross platform software development: Oracle, IBM, Sybase, Ingress: Oracle Financials/Ebusiness Suite, Lotus Notes Domino. Microsoft SQL Server technology gives you Linked Server concept, Oracle gives you similar technologies, plus from Java/J2EE you can create various JDBC/ODBC bridges or native drivers

Dear Office Dweller

The following letter is a composite of feedback from road warriors in the field to the much respected and appreciated office dwellers who occupy the ivory towers, headquarters or maze of cubicles. The office dwellers are the curators of much needed scrolls, documents, data, financial information and other incredibly essential data and processes that enable the organization to function. The road warrior is the tireless face and voice at the front lines of the information supply chain, responsible for maintaining that delicate balance between the vision of the clients and the magic of what really happens behind the curtain.

"Did you get my electronic calendar invitation for our meeting in ten minutes?"

No, I did not get your electronic invitation for the meeting.

I am currently sitting in front of a very important client and giving my undivided attention. The Cell phone is turned to Vibrate and put away to avoid distraction. The laptop computer is turned off and in it's case. I have a pad and paper in front of me to take notes on highlights of our conversation. The client has my complete attention, especially when we are face to face. The client has specific needs and a vision of the future. I need to understand that vision and effectively communicate how our features will meet the needs of the client. When we are together, the client and I, we have one purpose that isolates us from the interruptions of the outside world. Our purpose is to find the best solution for a mutually beneficial business arrangement.

When the meeting is done, I will have to use my notes to draft a comprehensive document that I will send back to the ivory towers. This document must accurately convey the details of our conversation with the needs and vision of the client. It must accurately assess and explain the mutually beneficial business arrangement and establish the covenants or commitments of our conversation. My notes of those critical personal moments shared with the client will become the basis for a thesis that will be drafted many hours later in a hotel room in another city.

That electronic calendar invitation is buried amid two hundred and one other emails, many of which are from other clients. I will ready them all when I sit at my hotel room desk, eat my hotel cookie and drink my single serving hotel room coffee. The hotel has a Jacuzzi, pool and amenities that I will never see. What are the real amenities for a road warrior? High Speed internet connection, clean bed, hot shower and a continental breakfast are what constitute Home Sweet Home.

"Did you get the email with the attached 32MB Video of the receptionist's granddaughter's birthday party, the pictures from the company sponsored Bar-Be-Cue, the invitation to have your car washed in the parking lot or the plethora of other emails with embedded cartoons and enormous attachments?"

Some places still define high speed internet connection as a 56k modem or a single wireless router available from the hotel lobby. Hopefully the download will be complete before I finish packing my suitcase in the morning. I can't wait to read the internal company announcement about the hot lunch yesterday, accompanied by the gratuitous oversized images of greasy burgers, fries and pizza slices. I am tempted to send an email with embedded pictures of my bran muffin and banana but fear that the humor will only create another burdensome download to my fellow road warriors. Besides, somebody already beat me to the punch line and responded with a "Reply to All" message to HR that included a social security number and complete medical history. There will be at least ten to fifteen more "Reply to All" messages that simply say "Thank You", but I won't know that until I open them. I have worn the letters off of my delete key.

"Did you read the email that I just sent to you?"

Thank you for the phone call. I am now driving in bumper to bumper traffic with one hand on my cell phone so I can talk to you. In my other hand is a pen, ready to scribble notes on the printed directions that I downloaded from some mapping software three days ago. I know that this call must be really important if you take the time to write the email and then call to make sure that I see it and respond. Where am I?

On the passenger side of the car is a slowly wilting drive-through lunch. A cup of car temperature coffee is perched in the console beside my elbow. I am driving with my knees and trying to avoid that other erratic driver who does not seem to be paying attention to the road or traffic. Was that my exit?

That's right, my cell phone does get messages. I wonder if I can scroll through my messages and read the pinpoint text while simultaneously talking to you about the attached files. Can you hear me? I think that I found the email that you are talking about. Yes, this is the email. Was that a police officer that I just passed? Is it legal to talk on the cell phone while driving in this city? Better not take any chances, I have to hang up for now and call you back. I may not be able to talk on the cell phone, but I don't think that there are any laws about doing email or text messaging on your phone while driving, not yet anyway.

"I just sent you an IM, did you get it?"

Oh, you mean the Instant Message that you sent to ask me if I read the email that you called about while I am trying to drive? Sorry, I missed that one. Calculating route, when possible, please make a legal U-Turn. Oh, it is the agenda for the conference call that started five minutes ago. I need to provide a report and rolling forecast based on the staff meeting today? What meeting?

"Oh, we decided to change that feature three days ago. It is not available anymore."

I see, the features that I just explained to our client are no longer available. The new features will cost three times as much. The meeting that you just scheduled is for me to present how we are going to sell these expensive new features and to provide an updated forecast on the revised revenue. What, it is my turn to present? You do realize that I am hundreds of miles away right now, don't you? No, I can not email my presentation and review it with everyone by phone right now. Why? I have not started the presentation yet. I must have missed the announcement. What's that? Oh, you were not aware of the changes either and there was mp announcement. I understand completely, trust me, I really do.

So, we have a new company strategy and a new corporate direction. We have decided to reinvent ourselves. There will be a big meeting to unveil our new business plan and assigned goals. I got it. What's that? Oh, I need to submit my presentation on how I will achieve those goals and my plan must be sent before the close of business today. I'm sorry, you are breaking up. It must be a bad connection because I am close to the airport now. I do not know if you can hear me, but if you can then I want to you know that I will be boarding a plane soon and will call you again later from another city to find out what you are trying to tell me. Better yet, send an email.

"I bet you really enjoy those frequent flyer miles."

You really have no idea how much I look forward to taking my vacation, at home. After several weeks on the road and a different hotel room every night, I look forward to my own bed, the one that I picked out and paid for. These days we need to arrive at the airport at least two hours before the scheduled flight. This is not productive time. Imagine spending one quarter of your eight hour day in the office standing in line with your shoes in your hand. There is a line to check in, a line to go through security and a line at to board the plane. When you arrive, stand in line to collect your luggage and another line to get your rental car. Of course, you can bypass the line to collect your luggage if you do not travel with toothpaste, shaving cream, deodorant, any gels or liquids. You can identify those fellow passengers who have elected to expedite the cattle car processing by jettisoning their personal toiletries. It would be impolite to discuss how you can identify these passengers, just trust me on this one, you can.

Working on the computer on a tray table is only effective if you the proportionate arms of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and if the individual in front of you is incapable of reclining. More than likely, you will be staring at the liver pots in the bald patch on the top of the head in front of you for hours. Remember to bring large bills in exact change to pay for your wedge of wet cheese, two individually wrapped crackers and box of sixteen fabulous handpicked raisins. Ask for a receipt so you can expense your mid-air snack and then pay for the aisle or window seat next to you so you can claim it as entertainment expense if the snack is over your approved per diem.

If you fly as often as I do then you also get the benefit of memorizing the dialogue from abbreviated movies that you would not pay to see in the theatres. Of course, the bad language, violence and parental guidance scenes are all removed to make the movies safe for general audiences. Needless to say, we will never see Ozzy Osbourne on the eight inch monitors. Would you like to hear us recite the complete dialogue from "Coal Miner's Daughter" or "Vanity Fair"?

"You must hate your job."

On the contrary, I love it. The travel, the schedule, the hours and the inconveniences are sacrifices that must be made in the pursuit of a passion. Road warriors do not travel for the excitement of hotels, or for frequent flyer miles or because we enjoy the restaurants. The travel and time are a means to an end, and that end is something much more meaningful and personal. If you were to talk to us, really talk to us for a few hours, you would learn that the real passion is for family. For some road warriors that pursuit of accomplishment means a better life for a spouse or children at home. Every day away from home is a personal sacrifice that is an investment for the ones that are left behind. For other road warriors, the family is defined as the coworkers in the ivory towers. For these people it is the professional family and the success of the organization that keeps the fire burning within. For some other road warriors the extended family includes a special personal relationship with clients, and a true dedication to help each customer achieve their individual aspirations. For the vast majority of road warriors it is a combination of all of these things, the family at home, the family at work and the extended client family on the road.

We make sacrifices, but we are thankful to have the chance to do it and grateful to the people in the ivory tower. Office dwellers are a source of constant support and amusement, for this we salute you

Sincerely,

Your Devoted Road Warrior in the Field

Paying For Your Online Degree

Making enough money to go to college can be hard, even obtaining an online degree can be difficult to swing financially. While there are many ways that people can pay for an online degree, it is often a hard task to do since college requires study time, and work is something that will certainly eat up hours in your day. It is for this reason that it is important to start thinking about how you will pay for your online degree early in the process. The more you think about making money to pay for your online degree, the easier it will be to get through school without having to take time off to replenish funds. The goal of any institution is to get their students through the program without the students having issues paying for their degree. Most schools have specific programs to help you financially.

The best way to pay for your online degree is in cash at the start of the program. This certainly will avoid distractions. Yet this isnt the method that most people use while attending college. Most cant afford to pay for an online degree all at once. Many students must instead turn to alternative ways to make payments. The only way many people can afford to obtain an online degree is through payment plans, and financial aid, both of which are viable ways to pay for school, especially since an online degree is typically considerably less than that of a traditional university degree.

Financial aid for online degree programs is readily available for students. Students have different needs, and many students will qualify for a financial aid package of some kind. These can include a mix of grants, loans, and scholarships that are all put towards your online degree program. The best part of grants is that the federal government offers this money without requiring repayment; in essence they are paying for a piece of your tuition for the program in order for you to better yourself. Financial aid loans for your online degree are typically structured as federally subsidized loans that will eventually require repayment, but at a much lower interest rate than a traditional loan would require.

Payment plans are another way to pay for your tuition at most online degree programs around the country. There are many different payment plans available to those that wish to pursue this method. Some are more advantageous than others, but most follow a similar standard of financing the college tuition over a period of time, which can make tuition a much easier burden to bear.

While one cant prepare one hundred percent for what college costs will amount to, one can always try to be educated on the variety of ways that they may pay for their college education. It is surely a smart move to research the different financial aid packages, or payment plans. Regardless of your financial status, it is imperative to look into what aid might be available to you. This will save you time and money once your online degree program starts.

The Cost Of A New LCD Screen Than A New Phone

Nowadays, phones are being updated all the time. Some phones are cheaper than others and sometimes the parts, like internal LCDs are more expensive than a cheaper end phone is to buy.

As there are so many phones coming out all the time, the LCD range that is stocked needs to cover the majority of these models. An ever increasing selection of mobile phone LCD screens are now available to the public.

Often, people will ask why one would want to change the broken LCD screen and not just buy a new phone? Well, firstly, the LCD price represents the price of the phone it is for.

An example being, If a phone cost 50 new, an LCD for that phone would be available for around 15 whereas a 100 phones LCD screen would more likely cost about 35. So it is always going to be a cheaper option to replace the LCD than the phone. Nowadays, some phones cost up to 500 when purchased sim free. The LCDs again, reflect this and can cost up to 180 or more. So, you may think that for the price of a new LCD, you can get a new phone for, right? Right, but it would not be the same phone as it costs 500 to replace that model. People would rather spend x amount on repairing the current phone they have than spending the money on a new phone instead as the phone would be inferior to the broken phone. Not many people step down a model in a phone, like many other things in life, like a car, the desired model normally inclines rather than declines.

The fact that LCD's are getting easier to fit with the correct tools openly available, many people are buying the parts needed and fixing the phone themselves rather than pay a qualified engineer to do the job and being without the phone whilst the work is carried out.

The majority of people with a high end phone would have bought it with an airtime contract from a network provider. The phones cost is heavily subsidised by the network when taken with a contract. So many people are unaware of the true cost or value of the phone if it needed to be replaced because it was free with a contract via a network. So when it needs a new LCD screen replaced, these people often suggest that its not worth spending money on as it was free. Then they learn that to replace the phone like for like it would cost 200, a new LCD for 55 is better than any new 55 phone would be.

Many people find that they would rather repair the mobile phones LCD over buying a new phone because they have finally just got used to using it and it's now discontinued so it's hard to find an exact replacement and the thought of learning another mobile phone set up, just not appeal to them.

Other people need to repair the current phone that just has a broken LCD, as they have all their contacts stored on the phone so its vital to get the phone working again, even if it is just to retrieve the data stored on the phone. This data is often priceless information and if its a toss up between losing the data or spending 100 plus for a new LCD part then its often 100 or so well spent. As if you were unable to get the information then you would have lost numbers of people you would never get again.

The price of LCDs do drop as do the phone prices themselves. As a new phone comes out, the older model drops in price, so do the parts for it drop accordingly.

I can recommend a couple of items available to help out if such an event happens to you, firstly though, I feel that the most important thing to do is always keep a backup of your phone book. There is a range of SIM card back up devices available. Some copy from SIM card to a small stand alone device where no PC is needed. You can then put in a new sim card and copy all the entries over to the new sim card. Other devices come with PC software that can be linked up to a PC and entry details can be edited on the PC. This would be a better option as more data can be stored on here like calendar entries and text messages.

Other options include PC suite software and connectivity cable or a Bluetooth dongle with a Data suite software.

My Slow PC

Question: Why is my computer running so slow? Do computers slow down when they get older?

Answer: No, but here are some of the most common reasons a computer slows down.

Background programs running:

This is the biggest reason and can be fixed quickly and for free... it's possible that your computer may have so many background programs running simultaneously that there is not enough resources to run normally.

The end result of this is that your computer begins to run more and more slowly over time as you add other programs.

There are two remedies, get Anti-Spyware and use the feature which allows you to view running programs and to disable any of those running programs. Or, if you like to get into your system with your bare hands, use the remedy below.

How to disable unneeded background programs:

All icons in your computer's system tray are background programs using memory. There are more, but you will get a hint from that system tray. To see and exit all running background programs:

Windows 95 - ME

*
a. Press the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys at the same time.
*
b. Click any program or task except Explorer or Systray,
*
c. and then click End Task.

Repeat steps b and c to quit all programs except Explorer and Systray which are necessary components of Microsoft Windows.

You should now have a clean system. See if the computer runs like it used to... if it does, you will want to prevent those programs from restarting the next time you start the computer.

If you don't want any background programs starting when you restart the system, and you know what you are doing, you can run msconfig from the run menu and completely disable what you find in the 'Startup' tab. If you aren't that experienced and you want a safe way to disable all those unneeded background programs, get the remedy recommended for the spyware on this page. It has a feature allowing you to disable startup programs safely.

Windows XP through 2003 Server

*
a. Press the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys at the same time.
*
b. Choose 'Task Manager' tab to view and end any running programs.
*
c. disabling these programs will require that you change their startup properties in the 'Administrative Tools' area of your system. The Windows Help menu will walk you though that process if you search 'disable programs' in your help section.

Spyware:

Many kinds of software add themselves to your system start menu without even asking your permission. Sometimes you will click on a link or visit a hacker website that installs spyware on your computer without you knowing. Click here for the best fix. and its free to try.

Fragmented hard drive:

This results from programs being loaded and deleted. Run the Window's hard drive defragmenter (Defrag) once a month. It is under your System Tools menu. Your computer's help menu will tell you how to do it.

Other problems: (Possible, but unlikely to cause problems)

You could have old or conflicting Windows device drivers. An example would be you might actually have two entirely different video drivers on your system and Windows could actually be alternately using both of them.

To prevent this problem, First boot the computer in Safe Mode by pressing and holding the F8 key during startup, after the DOS memory check has completed.

While in Safe Mode select Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Devices. Click on all the devices and see if the various drivers have any yellow or red exclamation marks (which indicates a driver conflict) and also determine if there are any duplicate drivers that can be eliminated.

You may have to delete and reload a driver to correct these problems. Duplicate drivers can and should be deleted.

As each new Windows program is installed and uninstalled, it leaves behind parts of itself that can slow down or crash your computer. These are mostly .dlls and other shared files.

It's also very possible when uninstalling a program that needed Windows system files can be deleted. When your computer asks if you want to uninstall shared files it's usually safest to say no -- even if your uninstall program claims the files are not being used.

Old Windows drivers can be found by booting into Safe Mode, then opening Control Panel/System/Devices and ridding your system of old drivers.

Otherwise, the only real answer to this problem is to pick up ERROR DOCTOR or just reload Windows into a new directory which eliminates all old junk and leftover files. Reloading Windows is something to do last, as you will also have to reload all your Windows settings, drivers, and programs.

You could be lacking system memory - The only time this may be a problem is if you have an older system and upgraded your operating system without adding some more memory. You should probably upgrade to 256 or 512MB or more of system memory, while it isn't free, it isn't very expensive like it was at one time. Check out Tiger Direct to find great deals on memory upgrades.

Learn The Italian Language With Ease

Pasta, Ti Amo, Prego are three words from Italy. Italys language is called Italian and learning this language is more like reading every English syllables of every word. The Italian language is fairly easy to understand and learn since some words can be recognized easily the moment it is mentioned. Some Italian words are even used now by millions of people across the globe.

Interested to learn the Italian language? If you are, good for you then. Learning another language other than a persons mother tongue helps enhance a persons memory capabilities and thinking skills. Unfortunately, many people give up too early by the minute they go through Lesson One of their Italian books or Audio materials. This shouldnt be the case since learning is not an easy and quick process. Surely you didnt graduate from high school without going through all the required subjects and passing grades right? Why learning a foreign language is any different?

Still, we cant ignore the fact that not everyone is willing to sit down and read Italian books. The good thing about this century is that millions of people can access whatever information they want by using the Internet. This is where the good stuff comes from too. If you are a busy person who cant spare time in going to universities to learn a foreign language or even immerse yourself on another country, search for foreign language learning programs from the internet.

Another thing, you need not to stick to old memorization techniques like repetition since your memory will most likely fail you with this type of method. What you can do instead is to carry around a picture dictionary while you read an Italian childrens book. Why a childrens book? Because you start from the basics and its easier to learn the correct usage and order of words. Watching a movie with Italian subtitles can also enhance your listening skills in association to the words on the screen.

To easily remember Italian words versus the English interpretation, you simply can associate the words to a funny event or situation. Remember we mentioned awhile ago that learning another language enriches your brain and it applies to this method. Lets try to imagine a lazy donkey. The donkey is too lazy to eat or take a bath but is never lazy to play card games even if it has to play at the last casino open in town. If you havent guessed it yet, the word donkey from the English vocabulary and lasino in Italian are the example words used. Crazy, right?

This example is just one easy and efficient way how to learn and memorize the Italian language and other international languages as well. Check http://learn-italian-program.com for more Italian words.

Top 10 Ways To Make A Computer Run Faster

Today I am going to be talking about different ways you can make a computer run faster. There is actually a lot you can do yourself that will boost your PC's performance. So lets take a look at different ways we can remedy that slow computer of yours!

1. Free Up Disk Space

A great way to make a computer run faster is to free up some disk space. Windows comes with a disk cleanup tool that helps you free up space on your hard disk. The utility identifies files that you can safely delete without messing anything up, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files.

How to use disk cleanup tool.

* Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup. If several drives are available, you might be prompted to specify which drive you want to clean.

* In the Disk Cleanup for dialog box, scroll through the content of the Files to delete list. (If you have multiple hard drives you will have to select which one to scan.)

* Clear the check boxes for files that you don't want to delete, and then click OK.

* When prompted to confirm that you want to delete the specified files, click OK.

2. Use Defrag Tool

When you add a file or a new program to a new computer, the hard drive is relatively empty so new data is saved to the hard drive in one whole block. When you need to use that information, the computer can quickly access it because it is all in one place. Defragging your system is definitely a way to make a computer run faster.

How to use defrag tool.

* From the start menu point to "all programs"
* Point to "Accessories"
* Point to "System Tools"
* Click on "Disk Defragmenter"
* The disk defragmenter will display the hard drives on your computer. Just select and click Defragment.

3. Get rid of spyware

Definition

Spyware is software with malicious intent - by design; it does something bad to your computer. Usually, it gets installed without your knowledge. It sometimes takes advantage of the fact that most people click "I Agree" to software licenses without reading them.

The only way to get rid of spyware is to have some kind of scanner, sort of like an anti-virus. In order to make a computer run faster and keep it safer your going to need an anti-spyware program. This is tricky, a lot of the spyware programs out there are malicious and will actually add viruses and spyware to your computer by using the "spyware scanner and blocker". So please remember to be very careful when choosing your anti-spyware program.

4. Find and repair disk errors

Detect and Repair Disk Errors

In addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize the performance of your computer, you can check the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the Error Checking utility.

How to run the error checking utility.

* Click Start, and then click My Computer.
* In the My Computer window, right-click the hard disk you want to search for bad sectors, and then click Properties.
* In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab.
* Click the Check Now button.
* In the Check Disk dialog box, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
* If bad sectors are found, choose to fix them.
Tip: Only select the Automatically fix file system errors check box if you think that your disk contains bad sectors.

5. Get an external hard drive

Adding an External Hard Drive to your computer will allow you to clear out a lot of the things you don't need to be storing on your normal hard drive.

A great example would be your music or pictures. All those songs and pictures are sitting on your computer making it go slower. You will see a decline in your computers performance as soon as you use over half of your hard drive space.

Moving all your songs or pictures to your external hard drive will free up a lot of space on your main hard drive. You can even move applications such as photoshop or games.

An external hard drive is also handy because it is portable. You can unplug it from your computer and take it to a friends house and plug it in there, sharing photos and pictures very easily.

This is truly a great way to make a computer run faster.

8 Keys to a Successful Church Building Program

Eight Considerations for Leading a Successful Church Building Program

There are many reasons for a church to decide to enter into a building program. It may be that the community is growing, the church is growing, or church space is saturated. Whatever the reason, the following considerations will help you develop and conduct a successful church building program.

1. Write A Statement Of Mission

Writing a statement of mission is a very important first step in the process of planning your new facility. The purchase of land, the master planning, and the design of the facility are all related to, and dependent upon, the mission of your church. The church should plan what its going to do in the building as an expression of faith in obedience to Gods call and the mission He has given. The church must know why they are here as a congregation, what they are going to do, and how they do it. When this is understood, then the church can plan adequately for the space and equipment needed to do their work and express their faith. Your statement of mission should include present ministry and outreach, as well as plans for the future.

2. Timing

When is the best time to build? Conventional wisdom says its time to build when the church reaches 80-85% of its worship capacity for the first time. While the 85% capacity rule of thumb is sound and proven, the more important thing is for the church to reach it that first time!

Growth patterns, whether positive or negative, tend to feed on themselves. If you enlarge your facilities as you approach saturation, you permit growth to continue. If you dont, you then impose an upper limit on growth and upon reaching your facility saturation point the growth rate slows, eventually stops and often reverses itself to a less saturated plateau. If the space situation is not properly addressed, churches frequently find a decline sets in and the church begins a roller coaster ride of growth and decline, repeatedly bumping up against the saturation point.

3. Understanding building as part of a process

A church building project is a major experience in the life of an individual and of a congregation. For a great many people this experience has opened new spiritual horizons and led to a deeper and closer walk with God. For some, it has been a source of bitter disappointment, frustration, and deteriorated spiritual life. The difference in outcome is not just happenstance; it happens because of the attitude, concept, and administration of the entire project. You should view the building effort as a process in the continuing life of your church. A new building is a milestone in your growth, and that growth is intended to continue onward until Christ returns. So, while doing the necessary thinking and planning for the building, you must allocate time and resources not only for current responsibilities, but also for the future growth opportunities for your ministry.

4. Develop a work calendar

A key step towards a successful church building project is to insure that the work of each committee or study group is clearly defined and understood. It is imperative that they see their particular work in relationship to other groups and the building program as a whole. Organize your meetings, specifying the results you hope to achieve in a certain time frame. This calendar should be specific and written down. This task is necessary so as to establish benchmarks to know where you are in each phase of your building goals and to insure that all of the requisite parts come together in a timely and seamless fashion.

5. Base your Master Plan on your philosophy of ministry

Before an architect is authorized to begin work on building design or plans, it is imperative the congregation produce a written church building program. This program should include: What they believe; how the church carries out those beliefs in worship, education, fellowship, evangelism, recreation, community involvement, etc.; how they conduct worship service; what constitutes their program of Christian education, including the space needs of all age groups; how the church plans for fellowship experiences and the equipment needed; what work areas are needed for the pastor, church staff and teachers; needs for sanitary facilities, and other space to insure the comfort and safety of those who will use the building.

By thinking through all these matters, the major aspects of a building project are established well before the building itself is designed. Your major goals will be established, while allowing flexibility in creating the details of your church design.

6. A building that reflects its people

The building must be an expression of the whole congregation (within reason) and not the vision of one person, or a small group. To accomplish this, it is necessary to involve as many people as possible in the study groups and in writing the church building program. The design of your building should reflect your churches personality, goals, age, income, beliefs, hopes, wishes and desires. What the members of a congregation believe, and how they practice those beliefs in worship, fellowship, education, evangelism, recreation, community involvement, etc. really should determine the shape, size and style of building they build. Being able to communicate this to your architect will help make the design of the building welcoming to both members and seekers as well as more effective as a ministry tool.

7. A building that says welcome

Let the building say to your neighbors This is a friendly place. We want you to come in and join our fellowship. Let us help meet your needs. We care about you. If parking is readily accessible and well lit, the entrance is easily seen, there are few steps to climb, and the building is warm and friendly; then a new person sees the welcome signs they are looking for. You must make a conscious effort to make it easy for new people to visit your church.

8. Spend your money wisely

Dont overspend on your building program. It is very easy to get caught up in the enthusiasm of building and leave the budget behind. Staying focused on your goals and within your budget are key ingredients to insure a successful building program. There are a variety of legitimate ways to save money in a building program, including using off the shelf church plans. Through the practical application of their experience, a church building consultant can help your church reduce the cost and the effort in building. It is often a good idea to get an outside consultant involved as they have both the experience and objective viewpoint to help maximize the results of a building effort.

The general rule of thumb for how much financing you can safely afford is three times your annual income minus less any debt you already have. This will vary depending on circumstances, but it is a good place to begin. One important thing to remember is not to start construction until you have secured your all of your financing. Nothing will kill enthusiasm in a building program faster than running out of money before the job is done.

While it is assumed that the church will seek Gods wise counsel through His Word, do not underestimate the power of prayer and meditation. We like to say that the devil will show up in every building project, as he hates when Gods Kingdom and Gods people are growing. A solemn responsibility rests on the pastor and church leaders to use the occasion of a church building project to inspire, uplift, and solidify the congregation and to make it a more vital and useful force for God.
